From 1975-1978 the ruling party of Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge, engaged in a massive genocide of its people. By some estimates 45% of the population was killed, most of whom were the elderly, sick or educated and the intellectuals. Now 40 years later the country is still recovering.

The Angkor Archaeological Site contains 5 main temples, the largest of which is Angkor Wat. We also visited the magnificent Angkor Thom and Angkor Ta Prohm, the site of the movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”. The site also includes a hand-dug moat that surrounds the main grounds. All the temples include magnificent carvings, of which photos do not do justice (but we’ll try). Note the people in some of the photos to get a perspective on size.
