Melbourne (native Melbourne-ites pronounce in “Mel-bin”) is on the underside of the continent and was one of two cities where we knew someone in advance. Luanne’s friend of Bill W., Mark, lives and works there. He met us nearby the dock where we berthed, picked us up and took us on a tour of the city and also to meet his family. They live in Whitehorse, a very nice suburb of Melbourne. On the ride to Mark’s house we hit a bump and got a flat tire. Mark, being a lawyer, had never changed a tire. Fortunately Ira has had the experience and we continued on our way. After meeting his wife and two young daughters, Mark served us a very nice lunch. Later we strolled through the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary that is a short walk from their house. After touring the rest of the city we returned to our ship.
While driving around Melbourne we encountered some very foreign (at least to Americans) road signs. See “They Drive on the Wrong Side Too” for some examples.
