Wayne Porter Sculptures

Next

Close to the middle of Nowhere, South Dakota, in a field a mile or so off of the main highway, the works of Wayne Porter can be found.  The subject matter is varied, yet the materials are always metal and done by welding.  The man with Luanne in the slideshow is the artist.

The size of some of the pieces is mind-boggling.  The Egyptian long-horned steer you will see is 60 feet to the top of the horns (the same size as a head on Mt. Rushmore), weighs 25 tons and took over 3 years to construct.

Many of the others are larger than life (below is one of the artist’s brother), and with nearly three dozen pieces in this field, the subject matter is quite varied.  Enjoy!
