Lansings & the Waldorf
While growing up, Ira’s mother Viola served fresh fruit as part of breakfast. Often it was oranges or grapefruit. When it was grapefruit Ira did not hesitate to squeeze the juice onto the plate, pick up the plate and drink the juice. Viola would admonish him with “when you are at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, don’t do that”. The same caution applied to picking up a soup bowl.
On this road trip Luanne and Ira stayed at the Roosevelt Waldorf-Astoria Historical Hotel in New Orleans. The video linked to the above photo brings the caution to life. Note the half grapefruit on the table.
