Transplant complete. It was technically a stem cell transplant, but they still generally refer to everything as a bone marrow transplant. They attached a bag of stem cells (blood) to Jess and let it drip in over a couple of hours. They gave her some feel good meds and a (re)birthday cake. Done and done. See photo of Jess' nurse hanging the bag of stem cells.
Spirits having been up and down and side effects from the chemo are still lingering, as expected for some time still.
Three more weeks or so of inpatient hospital time planned as Jess' white blood cell counts continue diving to nothingness. She'll be able to transition out of the hospital once her levels return to a place where she can defend against some germs.
We can expect that Jess will receive a litany of preventative medications to control for infection and graft vs. host disease (click for more info). Side effects of meds are TBD.
Visits with Kaia have been challenging. Kaia is not allowed on the unit and Jess' energy level takes sharp unexpected dips which prevent Jess from leaving the unit to visit. Kaia does continue to revel in the extra grandparent attention which seems to come equipped with lollipops and M&M's.
