In early January Jeremy and Jess met with the Stanford Medical Bone Marrow Transplant Team (BMT). Here is what Jeremy wrote:
"If the initial diagnosis was like being hit by a fast moving train then meeting with the BMT team was like being hit by a slow moving train. Yay. Following the meetings both Jess and I felt a very clear sense of being overwhelmed. I'll lay out what we learned about the transplant process as best as I can. But, before I regurgitate a linear plan that probably won't be linear I feel it necessary to comment on how Jess and I feel that there isn't a "fix" for our feeling overwhelmed. Although there isn't a fix there is plenty of work to be done. The work is "one day at a time;" the work is sitting with the unknown; the work is feeling the suffering; the work is letting go; the work is grieving the loss of being together; the work is seeing the good and the bad; the work is taking care of oneself; the work is being vulnerable; and the work is accepting help.”
The process they will go through will take 9-12 months, best case scenario. It includes treatments and LOTS of recovery time.
